New England Yearly Meeting Young Friends

Fall 2006 Letter

August 25, 2006

Dear Young Friends and Families,

I hope you have had wonderful summers! It was great to see so many of you at Yearly Meeting, and we missed those of you who couldn't be there with us. As most of you know, September is my last month as the Young Friends coordinator. I have so loved getting to work with all of you in this role. I will continue to RP throughout the fall before I head to India for about six months on a teaching and service trip; I will be back to RP for Yearly Meeting.

I am thrilled to introduce you to Kim Allen -- the new Young Friends Coordinator. I knew Kim when she was a Young Friend herself and am so excited that she will be taking over for me. Kim's deep love and care for Young Friends, grounded Quakerism, wicked sense of humor, and strong leadership skills are going to be a blessing on the YF community. I have every confidence that she will do an amazing job as your new coordinator. Kim and I are going to work closely together this fall to make sure that the transition is a smooth one.

While she will not be full-time until October, Kim will be taking care of all the fall registrations (see enclosed). Both of us are available by phone and e-mail to answer any questions that you might have. The YF program will run the same as last year -- with fall and mid-winter mailings with information about the retreats and with the option to register via e-mail once you have sent in a paper copy of the Permission/Health Form.

The Young Friends at Yearly Meeting picked a great list of retreat topics (see enclosed calendar). Kim and I are already excitedly planning the fall retreats. We'd love your ideas and suggestions -- send an e-mail or give us a call.

See you in October!

Hello to all! My name is Kim Allen, and I am the new Young Friends & Young Adult Friends coordinator. I am so excited about this new position, hangin' out with and ministering to so many amazing Young Friends, as well as getting to meet their fantastic parents :) I was a YF myself, and the wonderful memories of those golden years are still very fresh in my mind. I have some enormous shoes to fill, but with a little grace and the wonderful support of our community this transition will be smooth. Undoubtedly, this coming year will be filled with much work, love, and balancing. May the wonderful work, devotion, and caring of Chris Jorgensen and Lisa Graustein be ever present to us all. I truly look forward to this year with great clearness and excitement.

Much love to all,

Kim Allen
