I am looking forward to spending time with your Junior
Higher(s) at Yearly Meeting Sessions this year. I wanted to take
the opportunity to brief you on some important details of JHYM program. Although
we are still in the process of developing the JHYM program, some things
are for certain:
- There will be an orientation meeting for Junior Highers and their
parents/sponsors on Saturday afternoon. It is mandatory
for all parents/sponsors and JHYM participants to attend this
meeting in order for staff to introduce themselves and fill in
the remaining details that parents/sponsors will need to know. This
is an important opportunity for parents, sponsors, and young
people to hear about the week’s program schedule and expectations
for building a loving, fun, and inclusive community. We
welcome any questions you might have as well.
- Junior High program will run from Saturday evening through
Thursday morning. There will also be an afternoon program
which is optional for Junior Highers. Specific times will
be stated in the JH program which you will receive at the orientation
meeting.
- There will be a field trip to a nearby park for a day of swimming,
short hikes, games, and relaxing.
- There will be a Junior High “lounge” on some evenings.
This is for JH use only and serves as a place where Junior Highers
may opt to “hang out” in an informal but supervised
setting after program hours. This will be the only supervised
location for Junior Highers after program hours.
- Outside of program time, parents and sponsors are held fully
responsible for the whereabouts and safety of their children.
JH staff are responsible for children only within specific program
times which will be stated in the JH program.
- Getting enough sleep is crucial to a successful
week. So we encourage parents and sponsors to enforce an 10:30
PM curfew for their JH children. This has worked extremely well
in years past and staff have appreciated the efforts of parents
and sponsors to see that our Junior Highers are safe, healthy,
and reasonably rested through the week.
