Responsibilities of Parents and Youth
at New England Yearly Meeting Sessions

We look forward to building an inclusive, loving, and safe community with our children. It is important that families recognize that Bryant University is a public setting, not a closed environment. There are other groups using the facility at the same time. We want to be considerate guests of the University, provide for the security of our children, and retain appropriate limits of youth staff responsibility.

Take time to talk over these responsibilities with your children before arrival, so that you can all feel clear about boundaries and expectations:

Responsibilities of parents:

1. Take children to their program on time and pick them up promptly. Let group leaders know if your child will be late, leaving early, or absent.
2. During afternoon choice time, you must sign your child in and out to be able to participate.
3. During time when your child is not signed into a program, you must be aware of where your child is and what s/he is doing. You are responsible for supervision of your child.
4. Children should have a same-gender companion in locker rooms or bathrooms.
5. Inform Junior Yearly Meeting (JYM)/Junior High staff of any behavior within or outside of the Quaker community that makes your child uncomfortable.

Responsibilities of children:

1. Be respectful and safe in using the facilities, paying attention to cautions from parents and other Friends.
2. Report to your parent and JYM/Junior High staff if there is any behavior that disturbs you or makes you uncomfortable.
3. Obey all community rules.
4. If you are not with your parent, make sure they know where you are.

RI helmet law for children aged 15 and younger riding wheeled vehicles

Rhode Island state law requires that children aged 15 or younger wear helmets when riding bicycles or other wheeled vehicles "on a public highway, bicycle path, shared use path, park and/or recreational area, school property or on any other public right of way." The relevant law is §31-19-2.1 Helmets are required on bicycle operators, bicycle passengers, skateboarders, rollerskaters, inline skaters, and scooter riders ages fifteen (15) and younger.

At the 2006 Annual Sessions, Junior Yearly Meeting minuted that parents should be informed IN ADVANCE to bring helmets for their children, and that parents should ensure that their children wear the helmets when "wheeling."
