My Friends' Beliefs Walker and Company, 1988, 183 pages Subjects: Religion & Other Faiths Grades: 6-8,9-12 Review: "A Young Reader's Guide to World Religions" Contains chapters on major world religions and Protestant Christian sects. Each has a brief history of the religion's appearance and tenets, and features photos of young followers and short interviews with them on their religious practice. An index, a few maps, and addresses of all the groups discussed in the text appear at the back of the book. Not exhaustive or particularly thorough, but a good place to start, to answer basic questions about a religious group, or to prepare young people for a visit to another church service. My Book of Friends Friends United Meeting, 1980, teacher's book 22 pages; story book 47 pages Subjects: Quakerism Grades: K-2 Review: The story book stands by itself as a storybook. The teacher's book gives two activities to use with the stories and leaves the rest to the teacher. If the stories are being taught, I think the teacher's book would be helpful as a resource for activities and patterns, but not entirely necessary. The stories could easily be read by most second-graders. They are solid and not flowery or overly exciting. -WCB Add'l books needed: no |
