NEYM Faith and Practice
Purpose and Procedures

Upon recommendation of the Permanent Board, the Yearly Meeting approves the Purposes and Procedures of all NEYM committees every three years. They are then printed in the Minute Book. Any changes to approved descriptions will be made as part of this review process. The following Purpose and Procedures were approved by Yearly Meeting sessions in 2003.

Purpose: The committee is charged with revising our 1985 Faith and Practice. It will also carry out the charge of the Dialogue Committee proposed by the Long Range Planning Committee to NEYM 2001 sessions, namely to encourage “substantive engagement” with perennial issues essential to the spiritual health of our Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly Meetings.

Procedures:  The committee meets for a full day 10 times a year. It brings drafts of each section to yearly meeting sessions for comment and preliminary approval. In the ensuing year, it considers comments on the draft from monthly meetings and individuals and brings a revised draft to sessions for final approval. Its work will be completed upon final approval of all sections and the publication of the revised book. It welcomes input at any time from committees, meetings and individuals.
