New England Yearly Meeting approved undertaking a revision of its 1985 Faith and Practice at its sessions in 2000 and a Faith and Practice Revision Committee was appointed at its sessions the following year. This web site was inaugurated in June 2006 to convey an overall sense of its work since 2001 and to encourage NEYM Friends' participation in the process.
The fruits of the committee's early work can be found under Guiding Work and Resources:
1. A foundational document called "A Peculiar People" which conveyed a sense of how it viewed its work.
2. A report on responses from monthly meetings and individuals to a questionnaire distributed in 2002 and list of suggested topics for the revision from various sources.
4. A list of resources on responding to gifts and leadings, in response to many requests for guidance on specifics of recognition, support and accountability within this general topic.
Resources from outside the committee include the text of a Faith and Practice exhibit created for the 1985 NEYM sessions when its current Faith and Practice was given final approval. This conveys a history of NEYM's Books of Discipline or Faith and Practice from the first Queries in 1706.
Under The Revision are texts presented to sessions, in process as working papers or as approved by sessions (either preliminary or final approval). The Draft Table of Contents below conveys an overall sense of general topics and their status; the Draft Table of Contents link offers more detail on possible subtopics within those chapters.
Finally, Joining the Process includes Background and Process, which offers some general background to the revision, a description of the approval process, and some suggestions on considering texts. It also includes Invitations to Participate, letters the committee has sent to individuals and groups inviting them to participate in the revision process.
As the revision process continues, more texts will be available as the Committee completes or revises them, and more opportunities for participation will be added.
