Rules Governing the Use of Framingham Monthly Meeting's Email Lists
FFM Discuss
The FFM Discuss list will be nearly an everything goes list with a few ground rules to keep things friendly (and sane).
-
Communicate with respect for all members of the list and the breadth of perspectives that receive messages on this list.
-
Think before you send. Take a moment to consider how your message may
be interpreted by list members. Put yourself in their shoes and hear
what they might hear. Consider if you might be able to communicate your
ideas in a more constructive or helpful manner.
-
Consider that you may not have all the answers.
-
Take time to reread the rules of both lists from time to time as they
may be updated. Plus it will help you to remember to apply them when
you have something to say.
- Don't use the list to tell others that their
messages are inappropriate. Email them directly and lovingly explain
why you feel the message is out of place, or contact the moderator,
James Gray (jamespgray@gmail.com), to explain the same.
FFM Announce
FFM Announce is a more structured list which attempts to keep
the volume of emails down a bit for those who looking for news and
events related to the meeting or 'meeting related activities and
events'.
-
Read the rules for FFM Discuss because they all apply to FFM Announce as well.
-
Consider the relevance to meeting members as a group. If your message
applies to a dozen or so then it is probably worth announcing it. On
the other hand if it only applies to a couple people perhaps you could
send a private message to just those people instead or post to FFM
Discuss to determine if anyone else is interested.
- Please try and limit your announcements to just
one or two a day. Be specific in your subject lines so that readers can
determine if a specific message applies to them quickly. This is the
information age after all and some of us have large numbers of messages
to catch up on.
- Job listings should *not* be posted to FFM
Announce although they may be posted to FFM Discuss. If you do post one
to FFM Discuss be sure to include the word 'JOB' in the subject so that
those interested can identify the message easily.
